September 19 Update Message from Dr. Skertich

Posted Date: 9/18/25 (3:00 PM)

Image features Dr. Skertich, Superintendent, with text indicating a message from him.Kahok Nation,

Our school year is in full swing.  We have been experiencing unusual heat over the past few weeks and student events have looked a little different because of the weather.   We appreciate everyone’s flexibility in adjusting schedules and activities. Thank you for your cooperation.

Parent/Teacher Conferences Coming in October

While we continue to adapt our day-to-day schedules, it is important to remember that the school year is not slowing down.  Please mark your calendars for Parent/Teacher Conferences coming up on October 30th and 31st. While these are still over a month away, they will be here before we know it.

Collinsville Police Department P.I.N. Sticker Program

Each year, the district expands its partnership with local law enforcement, and this year is no exception.  Our School Resource Officers are spreading the word about the Collinsville Police Department’s P.I.N. Sticker Program.

P.I.N. stands for “Potentially Impaired or Non-Verbal Person.”

This voluntary and completely free program allows community members to register a potentially impaired or non-verbal individual in their household.  The eight color-coded categories include individuals with:  epilepsy, Alzheimer’s/dementia, diabetes, impaired vision, a service animal, impaired hearing, autism and other/not listed

Once registered, families will receive a colored sticker for their home and/or car, and the information will be shared with local police, fire and EMS.  This ensures first responders are properly prepared to communicate with and assist each individual they encounter.

Use the QR code below to register someone in the P.I.N. program.

Community Partnerships

Our district is fortunate to have outstanding partnerships with organizations throughout our community and I would like to highlight two of them in this communication:  the Collinsville Area Community Foundation (CACF) and the Tote Me Home Program.

  • Collinsville Area Community Foundation: Attached, you will find the CACF’s annual report, which details the foundation’s vision and mission, recognizes donors, and highlights its continued growth.  Please take a look and help us spread the word about the foundation’s important work in our schools and communities.

  • Tote Me Home Program:  The Tote Me Home Program distributes hundreds of meals for students to take home each weekend throughout the school year.  Their partnership with the Collinsville Food Pantry is invaluable, but like any organization, they need support.
They are currently hosting a cereal drive through October 31st. Collection boxes are placed throughout the community, including the YMCA, Bert’s, Kruta’s, the Collinsville Township Senior Center, Laura Buick and the Collinsville Library.  If you would like to contribute, please consider dropping-off cereal at one of the collection sites, or taking it directly to the Collinsville Food Pantry at 2009 Mall Street in Collinsville.

Half-Day on Friday, September 19

On Friday, there will be early dismissal for students so staff can participate in a half-day of teacher in-service training.

I hope everyone has a great time at the Italian Fest on Friday and Saturday. Please use this opportunity to support the numerous clubs and organizations that give back to our schools and community.

Have a safe and enjoyable Italian Fest weekend, thank you for your constant dedication to our students, don’t forget to wear your purple and show your Kahok Pride!
